Casa Sensei, the Pan Asian, Latin Fusion eatery along the picturesque Las Olas waterfront, will launch its interactive "Roll Like a Pro" sushi-making classes on Saturday, August 10, 2019. Hosted on every second Saturday of the month from 3-5 p.m., Executive Chef Jimmy Meas will lead the two-hour culinary lesson where guests will learn to create their own traditional sushi roll. For $40 per person, participants can submerge themselves in an educational and social experience, exploring the art of sushi. Patrons looking to further accentuate their palates can pair the class with a premium sake tasting including a variety of sake selections for an additional $20 per person.
Immediately upon arrival, all guests will have their sake needs covered as they are treated to a lychee saketini. Chef Meas will then have everyone clink their glasses and say "Kanpai!," which is Japanese for "Cheers!" Patrons will watch as Chef Meas covers basic techniques such as prepping the sushi rice, slicing fish properly, understanding each unique ingredient, and learning the essentials of food plating. As a master of this Japanese culinary art, Chef Mear will apply high standards of freshness and perfect the delicate balance of textures and flavors. Patrons will then implement these techniques with step-by-step guidance as they make their rolls including the traditional Tuna Skinny, California and Veggie, to more custom rolls such as the Russian Role featuring shrimp tempura, avocado, asparagus, green tempura flakes and jalapeno topped with tuna, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. After working up a hunger, patrons can indulge in both their own creations and Chef Meas' before leaving with the skills for making world-class sushi at home.
